What Happens When You Call Shafer’s for HVAC Service

Heating & Cooling

Your furnace stops working in the middle of the night. Your air conditioner gives out on the hottest day of the year. Most homeowners end up leaving voicemails for companies that take forever to call back, leaving them waiting and wondering what to do next.

That’s not the experience at Shafer’s HVAC.

When residents across Armstrong, Butler, Allegheny, Indiana and Westmoreland County call us, every step of the process is handled by real people who know what they’re doing. Here’s exactly what you can expect.

Step 1: A Real Person Picks Up

The moment you call, you’re connected with one of our Customer Service Representatives, most likely Emily, Mariah or Chelsea. No AI agents and no hold music. Just a friendly voice on the other line with knowledge to help guide you.

Whether you’re unsure if you have an emergency or just need to talk through what you’re hearing from your unit, they’ll help you make sense of it. Most customers are scheduled within a few hours of calling.

Step 2: Your Technician Gets Notified

Once you’re on the schedule, the job goes to one of our service technicians: Josh, Kody, Andrew, Isaac, Dustin or Gabe. They get a notification the moment you’re added to the schedule, so they can plan their day accordingly. They’ll call you before they head your way so you’re never sitting around wondering when someone will show up.

Step 3: The Full Diagnostic

When your tech arrives, they do a complete diagnostic of your system. HVAC issues aren’t always what they seem. A furnace that won’t ignite could be a dirty flame sensor, a failing control board or a pressure switch issue. Our technicians are trained to find the root cause, not just the symptom.

Step 4: The Conversation

At Shafer’s, your technician walks you through three things, the problem, the cost and your options. You’ll understand what is broken, why it’s broken and what it takes to fix it. That’s respect for your time, your home and your budget.

Step 5: The Repair (or The Replacement)

If your system is repairable, your tech gets to work. Most repairs are completed on the same visit. If a special part needs to be ordered, they’ll let you know upfront and get the follow-up scheduled promptly.

Once the repair is done, our techs always take the time to clean up and then walk you through exactly what was done. They’ll also make recommendations for keeping your system in good shape, whether that’s getting on a maintenance plan, looking into an upgrade or having a discussion on when a potential replacement is in order.

Sometimes the right call is a replacement. If your unit is out of warranty, parts are no longer available or it’s simply no longer efficient, Bob or Matt will come out, assess your system and give you a straightforward quote.

From there, Brian or Harry will call to get your install scheduled. Our residential install teams (Tyler and Tyler, Austin and Ian or Ed, Bill and Dylan) arrive with everything needed to get your new system running.

If it’s a commercial install, you’ll see Alex, Art, Logan and Lucas. A few days after install, you’ll get a follow-up call to make sure everything is working as it should.

Geothermal? Ask for Pete.

If you have a geothermal system or want to learn whether one makes sense for your home or business, Pete is your guy.

Geothermal systems use the Earth’s natural thermal energy to heat and cool buildings without burning fossil fuels. They operate at efficiency ratings above 530%, which means significantly lower monthly bills and an ROI of 10 to 20% over the life of the system. No natural gas, propane, or oil means a safer setup for your home and a cleaner footprint for the environment.

HVAC issues can be stressful. Systems are complex, the timing of problems is always inconvenient and your family’s comfort is on the line.

Shafer’s has been serving Western Pennsylvania since 1973 with the consistent standard of showing up, doing the work right and treating people well.
